Itch is a complex reaction pattern that often results from activation of skin cannabinoid receptors types 1 and 2. Topical and oral supplementation with CBD has shown a reduction in itching associated with multiple medical conditions such as atopic dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis.
CBD acts directly on receptor skin sensory nerves, mast cells and skin cells. Studies have indicated that CBD decreases histamine associated with itch. Additionally, a currently FDA approved cannabinoid (Dronabinol), which is approved for chemotherapy associated nausea and vomiting, has also improved itching.
SIP ON THIS | physician facts
The skin has an endocannabinoid system onto which CBD can bind itself directly when in the form of a topical regiment. This process has a quick and targeted effect, calming the skin and restoring balance. Taken orally, CBD can inhibit the nerve signaling that occurs with chronic itching to soothe itchiness and redness.
