CLINICAL TRIAL | the abstract

Principal Investigator: Dr. Jennifer Cather

A single-center proof of concept study to evaluate the effect of sublingual cannabidiol (CBD) with an extract of Polypodium Leucotomos (PL) on photodamage.

An observational trial in which patients who are taking a CBD with PL are followed with serial facial analyses performed by a VISIA® Facial Analysis camera.  Changes in UV spots, brown spots, red areas, and wrinkles will be evaluated from baseline.

There is an unmet need for photoprotection, and we believe the combination of cannabidiol (CBD) and (PL) may provide a novel approach to photoprotection as well as rejuvenation due to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.  PL is a known photoprotectant. The results of this study will be monitored using VISIA Facial Skin Analysis over a 30-day trial time and resulted in late 2021.

SOTA Formulation Consideration Based on Data:

Patients who take sun sensitizing medications or medications which impair their ability to repair UV-induced DNA damage would benefit from enhanced photoprotection.
